Hello everyone. I would like to know what everyone does for sleeping. Myself I usually take magnesium glycinate not just for tinnitus but for other healthy stuff. I sometimes get good night sleep others not so good. I average about 5-6 hours. Listen to ocean sounds on low volume. My t started September/October 2022. So I know I’m a newb. Thanks.
 
A lot of people are low on vitamin D. And this has been shown to be a cause for anxiety and sleep problems. Assuming you are low, if you start submitting now it can take a few months to build back up to optimal levels. So this is something I always recommend too.

Previously I actually took prescription medication for sleep. I took several different types. Some would work for a short time and then stopped working. And then I finally whispers prescribed a stronger med called Seroquel. I took it for a couple of months and I finally got my sleep back to normal.

It was pretty scary when my sleep was not good. It took me really a year before I was sleeping normally again. But based on what you're saying I don't think you have nearly the problem I had. Five or six is pretty good but definitely it would be better to see something more like seven.

When I was at my worst I was averaging maybe only one or two hours per day. I might have one day in a 2 week period where I slept five or six hours, plus many days with one or two hours or even zero hours.

Of course now I'm so thankful and I slept 9 hours last night!

Good stuff. But I’m assuming get blood work for vitamin d or say the bell with it and start taking vitamin d.

Of course do your own research or even ask your doctor, but I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with starting a vitamin D supplement right away.
 
That is great info. I appreciate it. I just wish I found you at first before spent a fortune in useless supplements

Be sure and get a few handfuls of leefy green vegetables everyday too. What I do is get those salad kits that come with everything I need to make a salad and eat one of those everyday. It's really easy. There are probably even healthier ways to do this but that's how I do it.

Although vitamins never hurt you, to my experience reducing stress levels is key for improving sleeping. Also offcourse make sure you don’t take caffeine, alcohol or sugar in the evening. Develop a steady sleep routine. Preferably no phone screen but just reading a book before sleep. Also meditation (like the headspace app) can help.

I’m happy my sleep got better after a the first two weeks. During that short period I had nights with only a couple hours of sleep. I quickly got this (Dutch) self help book from a tinnitus expert. A clinical neurodoctor that specializes in tinnitus distress. He explained the vicious cirkel of tinnitus, stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc. This is known as the tinnitus syndrome (or tinnitus complex). To break this cycle you have to lower stress levels. Do activities you like, take enough breaks, etc. If really needed short term sleeping drugs or anti-depressants can also be used. After I explained the situation at work, I could cut down my working hours temporarily. This gave me room to relax more, go to bed extra early and meditate. The lower stress level quickly improved my sleep. I now manage to sleep from about 22:00 till 5:00-6:00. Sometimes its much shorter, but those nights are less frequent and correlated to a more stressful day. I’m confident my sleep will improve further as my stress about tinnitus gets down further. Which is a tall order as you all know. Also I think it can work counterproductive to focus to much on sleep. You can’t force yourself to sleep. Just relax and see what happens. One or two nights of bad sleep will not knock you down. Know these are just exceptions. I have three young kids that kept us up for months in a row. Eventually we got back up.
